Lauren Folkert’s 2022 priorities

Councilwoman Folkerts set the following 4 priorities for 2022. Not all items were included council’s official workplan.

Housing

  • Hire a code consultant to provide recommendations for simple code changes that could result in more and more affordable housing
  • Create deed-restricted middle-income housing program with density incentives and pilot infill projects
  • Change inclusionary housing fees to stop incentivizing larger units
  • Shorten the regulatory process
  • Reduce/eliminate city fees for projects with more than half affordable units

Small business support

Changes to regulations to ease burdens on small businesses such as change in use tables to allow for more uses in more areas, staff assistance to minority-owned businesses and nonprofits to help them navigate city processes.

Free citywide transit

Creation of a dedicated revenue source to subsidize free city-wise bus service; implement that service; implement other policy changes to support mass transit such as increased density around bus lines

Homelessness: Prevent exposure injuries and deaths

Collect data about rates of injury, hospitalization, and death related to exposure; implementing or expanding programs to reduce rates.
