Bob Yates’ 2022 priorities

Councilman Yates submitted 5 priorities for 2022 (with notes for context). Not all items were retained in the official council workplan.

Planning Reserve study

Complete by 2025. (Boulder owns 500 acres north of the city, set aside for parks land and future development. A study would reveal the feasibility of adding this land into city limits.)

Middle-income down payment assistance

Finalize, launch and market this program. (This still-TBD program was the brainchild of Yates and former Mayor Sam Weaver, approved by voters in 2019. It would provide or guarantee loans or cash assistance to help middle-income earners buy homes in Boulder, which would then be kept permanently affordable.)

Occupancy limit reform

(Despite opposing the Bedrooms Are For People ballot initiative, Yates has said he is in favor of changing the rules on unrelated adults living together, which currently cap occupancy at 3-4 regardless of home size or ownership.)

Improve city staff recruitment, retention

(The city of Boulder is struggling with high turnover. While this might be out of council’s purview, Yates said, he wants council to support whatever steps are necessary to find and keep good employees.)

Municipal broadband internet

Investigate the city providing open access broadband to all homes and businesses; re-engage broadband network consultant and update costs and benefits assessment.
